Why your video and GPS data are out of sync
Common causes of mismatched overlays and how to fix each one.
The camera's clock is wrong
This is the most common cause. Action cameras drift by seconds, and can be hours out after a battery swap or time zone change. Framemetry corrects this by itself when it finds a clear match on moving footage, but it's still worth setting the clock from the camera's app before you film.
The speed seems to lag
GPS devices smooth their speed readings, so a sudden stop can show a second or two late. That's in the data rather than the sync. Sync to your position on the map if you can.
The wrong activity was picked
If you recorded two activities close together, choose the right one from the list beside the clip.
How to fix it by hand
- Find a clear moment, like setting off or a sharp corner.
- Use the -1 s and +1 s buttons to get close, then the 0.1 buttons to finish.
- Press Auto-sync if you want to go back to the automatic result.
